MaxTools Readme.1ST File
------------------------
- 1 -
Welcome to MaxTools!
If you have downloaded this file out of curiosity, MaxTools
is/are 16 utilities for Maximus BBS sysops. Many are unique
and as far as I know were not ever done before.
The whole idea behind MaxTools is to provide an affordable
solution for the SysOp that has many needs but a low cash
flow when it comes to shareware.
The following is the latest information regarding MaxTools.
Please read it carefully.
MaxTools Message Structures & Squish
-------------------------------------
Currently there are 2 utilities that manipulate or send fido style
messages. MaxLev.Exe & MyMail.Exe
These currently only support the *.MSG format. If you run a Squish
system MyMail.Exe will probably not be very useful to you.
MaxLev however, only requires your Maximus private mail area to be *.MSG
There was not enough time in this release to support Squish.
I will most likely implement it in the future.
MultiNode BBS's & Single Node BBS's
--------------------------------------
The following utilities should be fine in a multiline BBS
environment or when the BBS is busy:
MAXLEV.EXE
MA.EXE
FA.EXE
MAKFM.EXE
MAKMM.EXE
MBBS.EXE
Desqview and DoubleDOS users
-------------------------------
MaxTools should work fine. I do not give back any time slices right now.
Please indicate on Register.Frm if you are using either of these.
If enough people are I will add support.
Security Levels and MaxTools
--------------------------------
I do not currently support keyed access levels such as LIMITED/6 defined
in the CTL files. I was ignorant to this feature until recently and hope
to add support for it in the future.

MaxLog.EXE
-------------------------------
MaxLog should never be ran when the BBS is busy.
It may be used on MaxTools.Log and will append to it fine
while it is shortening it.
There has been some confusion over what the number of days
actually means. If you type MaxLog 5, MaxLog shortens your
Max.log by the last 5 days of activity on your BBS. So if you
had 1 call each month, the log would contain those last 5
calls which would be the last 5 months of activity.
MaxBul.EXE
------------------------------
There is an undocumented feature in MaxBul that allows you to
use a different subdirectory for your bulletins. Create
a 1 line text file in your MaxTools\MaxBul subdirectory
called DEFAULT.DIR and place the full path ending with a backslash
of where you want your bulletins to reside.
MaxTools trouble shooting
--------------------------------
There is an undocumented feature in most of the MaxTools
utilities which enables logging of most attempted file
access's. Your log can grow so I do not advise leaving it
on all of the time. Also if more the one utility is running
at a time, the function that writes to the log knows when
another MaxTool is writing to it so that is protected.
To enable logging simply create a text file or 0 byte file
in the MaxTools subdirectory off of Maximus.
